Keeping Your Motivation High In A Pandemic

April 30, 2020

We’re all trying to find ways to stay motivated as many of us are spending most of our time at home. As UX Designers, we have to be focused and have our creativity flowing at all times which leaves very little room for being unmotivated. Here are a few of the things that have helped me over the last several weeks to prevent my motivation from dropping.

  1. Take up a new hobby: Finding something new to be excited about actually helps you come back to your work feeling more refreshed and energized. A new skin care routine, picking up that old instrument you used to play back in fifth grade, or even learning new recipes are all good ways to take your mind off of everything going on around you and be challenged by something new.
  2. Create a to-do list: Making a list has been a lifesaver for me no matter where I’m working from. It allows me to save time in the mornings by getting right to work instead of recapping the day before and trying to figure out what I need to do for the day. When you have a great productive start to your morning, you’re more likely to stay motivated throughout the day.
  3. Get out of the house during the day: It’s difficult to have to do everything from home and not have it weigh on you. Taking walks and running are great things to do to get out of the house. Anything that you can do to break up your work day will help you stay energized and not feel unmotivated as you work. Even if this is getting in a short workout during the day, you can break the day up that way as well.
